Last Friday, we marked the end of the official Maths Week at TES. The purpose of Maths Week was to celebrate the subject and to promote fun ways to learn about Maths. Maths is all around us and has many practical uses in life.

Just before the Lantern Festival signals the end of the Chinese New Year celebration, the Secondary campus was able to mark the occasion with a fantastic assembly to herald in the Year of the Rooster. This special tri-section assembly was ably organised by Ms Sung and the CLC Department and featured all the colour, comedy and creativity that you would expect from a Chinese New Year celebration.

Last week we were delighted to welcome Dr. Peiling Hu for her re-arranged visit to school. Dr.Hu is teaching English and Contemporary American Literature in the Department of English at Tunghai University in Taichung. However, our special interest was in her role as a translator of children’s books.

The first Mannequin Challenge video has been attributed to High School students in Florida, who were possibly inspired by bullet time scenes from science fiction films. The challenge soon picked up steam on Twitter and Instagram, going from high school cafeteria to high school gym, inspiring school spirit along the way. So it seems only fitting that students at the ESC should follow the trend.

On the 9th of December, Year 5 students went to clean up the beach at Jinshan Bay. This trip enabled the children to see for themselves the amount of pollution, particularly from plastic waste that is continually washed up on the coastline.
