Pedagogical Quality Management
All German Overseas Schools within the network “German Schools Abroad International” (”Deutsche Auslandsschulen International”) are obliged to offer education and school quality to the highest standards. The Central Agency for Schools Abroad (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen, ZfA) systematically supports the German Overseas Schools in implementing their tasks for further development as part of their pedagogical quality management.
The supporting and subsidising bodies from the Federal Government and from the Länder codified the internationally recognised quality standards in November 2006 in the “Quality framework of the Federal government and the Länder for German Schools Abroad”.
After the successful Federal and Länder Inspection (Bund-Länder-Inspektion) 1.0 (BLI) in September 2010 the German School Taipei was awarded the quality seal “Excellent German Overseas School” (Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule). This certifies that we meet the quality standards set by the German federal government.
The preparations for the next inspection due for November 2016 are well advanced:
- Self evaluation of the school in May 2014
In the course of this self-evaluation teachers, students and parents answered questions relating to the quality of the school and of the teaching. Their answers were processed in an evaluation report Evaluationsbericht into tables and diagrams.
- Peer Review in November 2015
“Critical friends” have looked into the progress made in implementing the required developments. They provided the school with important suggestions on where more work needs to be done to be well prepared for the Federal and Länder Inspection.
- Advice from the process consultant in September 2015 and September 2016.
The process consultant appointed by the ZfA for quality development of overseas schools in the Far East region regularly visits the school and gives valuable advice.
- Consistent quality development
The concepts for teaching development, organisational development and staff development are continuously discussed and further developed during the teachers’ conferences, in the Steering Group for quality development and in all working teams including teachers, parents and representatives of the school body.
After having employed some new teachers it will be a great challenge for us to go through the inspection process.
A team of two inspectors representing the Federal government and the Länder will come to visit our school. The actual inspection consists of visiting both school campuses, conducting interviews with the Headmaster, parents, Section Council members, students, teachers and management staff as well as visiting many lessons.
We have prepared the quality documentation for the inspectors and provided them with extensive relevant documents.
In their feedback report the inspectors will point out the strong points that they observe in the school as well as possibilities for further development. As a result, new aims for school development may be formulated and agreed upon with the subsidising bodies.
During a further follow-up visit two years later, the representatives from the Federal government and the Länder will check whether the aims that have been agreed upon are consistently pursued and implemented.
